Portland Timbers vs. Seattle Sounders is one of the must-see rivalries in Major League Soccer. The passion and stakes were raised when they met for only the second time in the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs in 2018, producing one of the epic matches in league history.
Watch the 2nd leg of their Western Conference Semifinal series played at CenturyLink Field on November 8, 2018 (full match replay above).
The No. 5-seeded Timbers entered with a slight edge after the 1st Leg which took place four days prior at Providence Park in Portland. They emerged with a 2-1 win against the No. 2-seeded Sounders and sat in the driver’s seat heading into the decisive second leg in Seattle.
However, that lone away goal gave Brian Schmetzer’s team plenty of hope although they’d have to manage without starters Cristian Roldan and Chad Marshall due to injury, on top of missing Jordan Morris to a season-ending ACL tear. The Timbers were relatively healthy, though managing the 2nd leg in front of 40,000 rabid fans would be no small task.
