Tua gets injured and viewpoints on 2020 QB class changes

The biggest storyline for the Week 12 college football recap is obvious: Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa endured another injury after coming back into the Mississippi State game on Saturday. Tua, who had been regarded as the top quarterback prospect by many, now has a new and unforeseen challenge he must overcome to get back to playing like he is known for. Throughout the evening, the PFN college football blog team provided some insight:

5:44 PM update from Ian Cummings –

Here’s a quick update on one of the most unfortunate and enthralling developments of the day: Tua Tagovailoa was rushed to the hospital for surgery after his hip injury sustained against the Ole Miss Rebels earlier today. Tagovailoa suffered a hip fracture, with the potential for blood vessel tears present. There is an ever-increasing likelihood that his injury is season-ending. For now, all one can do is hope for a smooth surgery and a steady recovery after that.

Later in the evening, multiple reports stated that Tua’s injury was in fact season-ending.

So how does that impact the 2020 QB class? Understandably, given the injury, Tua will drop in quarterback rankings, but how far will vary from person to person, with the feeling being from one to three. At the 7:15 PM update, Nick Farabaugh had the following to say regarding the quarterback outlook and how it helps LSU’s quarterback Joe Burrow:

Burrow has maybe been the most improved player in the country, let alone at quarterback and has to be the favorite for the No. 1 overall pick at this point, especially after Tua Tagovailoa’s injury.

Furthermore, at the 10:49 PM update, A.J. Schulte provided the following information:

Justin Herbert opened up the Oregon game with a deep, 75-yard strike for a touchdown off busted coverage. With Tua Tagovailoa’s injury, Justin Herbert looks like the QB2 for this NFL Draft. I’ve been a fan of Herbert and still believe in his talent (which means sticking through watching their offensive scheme). Additionally, Tony Pauline says he has all the makings of a franchise quarterback.
